The winter sport season has been a resounding success, with triumphs across all sports and levels. From thrilling finishes to exceptional performances, students have demonstrated their grit, determination and talent, earning our admiration and respect regardless of individual outcomes.
Our cross country team was once again outstanding, with both teams winning the APS premiership despite late injuries to some of our key athletes. It was a record-breaking result, making it eleven premierships in a row for the girls' and seven in a row for the boys’ teams. These incredible results demonstrate the hard work and commitment of these teams throughout the year and show the depth and strength of our athletics and cross country program. Congratulations to everyone involved in these very well-deserved victories.
Over at MSAC, it was ‘do or die’ for the boys' Firsts Basketball team who came up against ladder leaders Haileybury in the final game of the season. It was a nail-biting tussle with the lead changing multiple times in the dying minutes of the match. But with huge support from the predominately purple and gold crowd which included ‘Wes the Lion’, our boys ran out 3-point winners to finish equal premiers with Haileybury, taking the title for the first time since 2010.
The Wesley College sport program has continued to evolve under the ROAR sport framework which was introduced last year. The theme of ‘Why not us?' has been widely discussed alongside our core values of Respect, Opportunity, Achievement and Resilience, with our senior teams setting a fine example of what it means to ‘play for purple’. Their dedication and leadership have been exceptional, serving as a wonderful example for their younger peers to emulate in the years to come. #Go Lions!
