My journey at Wesley College began as a Year 5 student at the Glen Waverley Campus and ended as part of the Class of 2017. I am now proud to call myself a staff member at Wesley’s beautiful Chum Creek Outdoor Education Campus.
Arriving at the site for my interview in late 2023, I was reminded of my first visit here as a student way back in 2010 and the lasting friendships and memories that were formed among the towering trees and cackling kookaburras that call Chum Creek home.
As a student, I was lucky to experience the many Outdoor Education programs that Wesley offers; from hiking through mountains at Lochend and sailing the lakes at Mallana to sharing a house with seven people at Clunes and spending time in a remote community at Yiramalay.
These experiences have helped to shape me both professionally and personally, fostering my relationship with the natural world and pushing me to develop the confidence to share my learning with others, traits which have ultimately led me to wearing the purple and gold once again.
Returning now as an OW, it is truly inspiring to see how committed Wesley is to their students and to the College’s future. Being invited to participate at different levels of the College this year, including a conference for all Wesley staff and community members where we discussed ways to help shape the College’s vision for the future, was a highlight.
I now get to enjoy the rest of the year at Chum Creek, working with our team to provide amazing educational experiences for the next generation of students.
My time at Wesley College, both as a student and a staff member, has been extremely rewarding and the memories created wearing purple and gold will remain with me for the rest of my life.
