The Wesley College Foundation and the Sapere Aude Bequest Society were saddened to hear of the passing of Jean Oldfield on 22 March 2024.
Jean’s father Walter Huntsman (OW1906), her uncle Harry Huntsman (OW1906) and husband Doug (OW1946) inspired Jean’s significant service to the College and Foundation as Co-Patron of the Sapere Aude Bequest Society from 2005 to 2012.
Jean was a visible and dynamic support for Doug and together they contributed to the OWCA, the College and the Foundation over many years.
We extend our deepest sympathies to her children Doug (OW1970), Mardi, Bronwyn and Lisa, and their families including Old Wesley Collegians Al Oldfield (OW1999), Tim Oldfield (OW2002), Rick Gerbes (OW2003), Erin Mahony (OW2010), Linley Mahony (OW2012) and Sian Mahony (OW2016).
Jean Oldfield, along with Jean Prest, were introduced as new patrons at a SABS event in 2005 by the inaugural Co-Patron, Gordon Newton (OW1950), who also paid tribute to his inaugural Co-Patron, the late Joan Coates. Art works from the Cato Collection were on display at the event, including the magnificent Arthur Streeton painting ‘Winter Landscape’.
