After six rounds and a slow start to the year, our senior men’s side now sit second on the ladder with four wins and two losses recorded.

Nick Hibbins (OW1982) receives life membership award from immediate past President, Rod Nancarrow (OW1982)

We have had many injuries early in the season and are therefore giving a number of young players some senior experience as we know this will hold us in good stead for the future. We firmly believe our second half of the year will be better than the first, so look out for a great run going forward.

Our women’s seniors have also recorded four wins and two losses and sit in fourth place. This season has so far been more balanced, and we have been very competitive against all teams. We still look likely to play finals again this year in the Premier competition. Our women’s program has grown to three teams and the second and third sides have been very competitive, so much so, the thirds were put up a couple of grades as they were beating teams by too much each week. What a problem to have!

The Under 19 boys sit on top of their division undefeated and with a percentage of over 300. They are set for a big year and under the guidance of coach Rick Morris (OW2004), the boys are looking the goods to go deep into finals and have a real chance to win a premiership.

In total, we are fielding seven teams each week and all teams are performing at a great level and doing the club very proud. We regularly have five wins each weekend across the board, so no-one can be disappointed with those returns!

I would like to congratulate Andrew ‘Crackers’ Kenneally (OW1985) on his appointment as President of Collegians Football Club. I wish Crackers all the best and will be by his side to help him wherever needed.

At our season launch, Nick Hibbins (OW1982) was inducted as a life member. This is a great reward for Hibbo whose service to the club goes all the way back to starting as an Under 19s player in 1983. Since then, he has coached Under 19s to a premiership in 2016 and was our inaugural Women’s coach in 2017. He is now coaching our Reserves.

Life Membership of the Club is a great honour and Hibbo was duly humbled to receive it. He is following in the Hibbins family footsteps at the club with his uncle Geoff (OW1948), father Lex (OW1953), brother Mark (OW1978) and nephew Sam (OW2011), our current Club Captain, all making and continuing to make, unbelievable contributions to Collegians. Sam celebrated his 200th game recently, kicking three goals in the last quarter in a rare visit to the forward line.

We have had a number of successful home game functions already this year, including a great Past Players lunch after a successful season launch in March.

There is always an event coming up at Collegians, so go to the website to book and come along and enjoy a great time with great people and great football.

Our membership and sponsors are growing, but we are always looking for more people to get involved with the club.

For any questions on Collegians Football Club or to get involved, please contact Immediate Past President Rodney Nancarrow (OW1982) on 0412 687 430 or email rnancarrow@iprimus.com.au

Annabelle Schmidt (OW2023) and Lauren Kenneally (OW2023) are the first girls to follow in their father's footsteps and play for Collegians
