James (Jimmy) Fry (OW1998) was Captain of the First Tennis team in his final year of school. He put down the racquet at age 19 to play football for Collegians, pulling on the boots in no less than 230 games. But he never lost his love for tennis and after hanging up his footy boots at the age of 32, he took up the sport once again.
In March this year, Jimmy represented Australia in the World Tennis Masters in Turkey and is currently ranked #1 in the world for men aged 40-45.
The ‘Worlds’ tournament is played over two weeks; the first week was ‘teams’ which saw Australia compete against Mexico, Great Britain, South Africa, Norway and India. Jimmy was Captain of the Australian team and our #1 player.
The second week was an individual tournament which saw Jimmy come up against a number of former professional tennis players.
‘I am incredibly proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to put on the green and gold and represent Australia,’ said Jimmy.
'I played my heart out and gave it everything I had to compete with some of the best in the world in my age group. I came up a bit short in my expectations, but you live and learn and hopefully I can do a bit better next time round. I met some incredible people along the way and made some great friends.
