A large crowd of SABS members and guests gathered in the glorious sunshine in front of Bishopscourt which is the oldest house in East Melbourne and residence of the Anglican Bishop and later, the Archbishop of Melbourne, since 1853.

Our SABS group was warmly welcomed by Joy Freier OAM, wife of Philip Freier, the 13th Archbishop of Melbourne. Guests enjoyed a delightful morning tea in the impressive reception rooms followed by tours of the house and garden. A real feature of the garden is the sweeping front lawn dotted with fine trees and the garden is testimony to the hard work and commitment of the volunteers who care for it.

Our group were truly delighted with the visit and tour of Bishopscourt and helped in the fundraising to preserve the house and garden by stocking up on jams, plants and other treats from the volunteer-run shop. Our thanks go to Joy and the many volunteers who made this memorable visit to Bishopscourt possible. It was, as they say, ‘a truly wonderful day out’ in marvellous Melbourne.
