Wesley’s Elsternwick campus recently staged their Middle School Production of Hairspray at the National Theatre in St Kilda. The cast on stage included 80 students from Years 5-9, with a further 30 students who assisted behind the scenes in various backstage roles, working with costumes, sets, props, cameras, lighting, audio, playing in the orchestra and acting as ushers. Over the years of successful musical productions at Elsternwick, there has been a team of passionate staff driving the performances, to ensure that the tradition of musical theatre at Wesley’s Elsternwick campus continues. The backbone of the secondary students, those from Years 7, 8 and 9, leading the younger students from Years 5 and 6, has been and continues to be essential to the high quality of the productions at the National Theatre. It is indeed a worthwhile activity which supports the Wesley value of embracing, encouraging and celebrating inclusiveness, acceptance, diversity and the development of the whole child. Thank you to each and every one of you who have contributed to this year’s Middle School production of Hairspray!
