‘At the Glen Waverley ECLC, each day is filled with lots of activities and learning programs. You can tell the ECLC teachers really care, they take the time to get to know your child’s interests and support them to develop them further.’

Susu Qi - Glen Waverley ECLC parent

My daughters have thrived in the Junior School at Wesley. They have excellent homeroom and specialist teachers who genuinely want the children to succeed to the best of their abilities. My first impression of Glen Waverley was a sense of space, followed by the obvious warmth and dedication of the staff and teachers. My girls have excelled with their learning and music, taken on leadership roles, and made very strong friendships with their classmates.

Andrea Bruning - Parent

As a parent of three girls, co-education was always important to us when choosing a school. We love how our children are exposed to a wide range of experiences and given every opportunity to explore their own interests. They have developed a ‘have a go’ attitude and have absolutely thrived in the supportive Junior School community.

Personalised IB learning

Each day, children actively explore, question and imagine at their own pace, developing new interests and school ready skills through play-based learning.

Learning is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and delivered through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP) and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.

Small class sizes allow our qualified early childhood educators to personalise learning experiences throughout the IB PYP, which nurtures and expands young minds with a focus on socio-emotional, physical and cognitive development.

Learning how to learn

Our highly qualified and experienced teachers guide students through a variety of inquiry-led learning experiences, which promote skills such as:

Perceptual Motor Program

Our Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) encourages the development of important motor skills through movement and play.

Qualified PMP teachers guide students through activities such as climbing, ball games and memory games to actively develop key skills including:

  • height perception
  • apace perception
  • pattern and order perception
  • pencil grip
  • problem solving.
Prep-ready

Starting Prep can be both exciting and daunting, and we support our students through this important transition.

Throughout their time at ECLC, students participate in incursions to different areas of the school and interact with Wesley’s Junior, Middle and Senior School students. This helps build young learners’ confidence in the school environment before Prep begins.

Part of the pride

ECLC students wear the Wesley sports uniform to help them look and feel a part of the community and to familiarise them with the routine of dressing for school. These comfortable sports uniforms are ideal for day to day play and exploration.

How would you describe the GW ECLC environment?
Our ECLC team work hard to create a safe, supportive and stimulating environment which consolidates and extends the children’s interests and skills. We recognise and value the environment as a ‘third teacher.’ It is an integral part of the curriculum, reflecting the identity and cultures of our children and families, promoting independent exploration and learning through play.

What is your favourite aspect of working in the ECLC?
For many of our ECLC children, it is their first experience in their educational journey. Young children are naturally curious and love to explore, question, predict, imagine, research, problem solve, co-construct ideas and knowledge. Every day is different when you work within this age group.

What do you think students love most about ECLC?
Whilst our students love all aspects of the program, it is ultimately the connection they make with the staff and other students that gives them a real sense of belonging. When you start at Wesley, you become part of the ‘Wesley Family’.

Why should parents choose GW ECLC over other child care?
Being part of a larger school setting gives our young students the most amazing learning opportunities. Our holistic approach to teaching and learning through a play-based inquiry program, combined with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) allows for all students to access learning at their own level. Our children thoroughly enjoy the specialist classes too.
