Accidentally killed when a horse unseated and dragged him in Epping Road, Preston. Died in hospital. Joined Navy pre-war when he was a successful candidate to pass a competitive examination for the position of paymaster’s assistant. He had been to England and visited important admiralty dockyards.
He came out in one of the Australian cruisers and had been on active service, including twice to New Guinea with the fleet. On his last visit there he contracted a slight attack of malaria and had received leave of absence in consequence. CWGC has under the name Embleton
