The best start for your child
The Prep program at Wesley's Elsternwick Campus for the first year of formal schooling, provides your child with the best start to their education journey. Book a tour and read more below to discover the difference for yourself.
Developing strong literacy and numeracy for lifelong learning
Early mastery of literacy and numeracy is fundamental to developing a life-long love of learning and academic achievement.
Our comprehensive phonics-based literacy program, Soundswrite, establishes a strong foundation for reading and writing. Through investigating the relationship between the sounds of words and letters as a whole class, students then consolidate their learning in small groups. Learning is therefore tailored to each student's level of understanding.
Highly skilled teachers who know your child
Our Prep classrooms have high educator to student ratios and provide personalised teaching, feedback and assessment.
Our highly skilled educators deliver the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program and a best practice learning and wellbeing model that responds to the specific needs and progress of your child. The strong relationships and high levels of trust established between our teachers, the students and their families, means your child will develop a love of learning that will help them flourish – both at school and in life.
An enriching coeducational environment
Within our diverse, coed classroom, our students not only learn about their own strengths, but also learn to identify and appreciate the strength of others. This builds the confidence of each young learner and fosters an environment of respect, understanding and inclusiveness.
Harnessing natural curiosity with an IB education
Wesley is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and one of the few to apply the globally recognised IB framework from Junior all the way to Senior School. This gives your child a continuum of learning as they progress through their educational journey.
The IB puts young learners’ natural curiosity at the heart of inquiry-based learning. Our carefully crafted units of inquiry present our youngest learners with countless opportunities to gain a strong understanding of the world they live in, as well as their individual and collective responsibilities. Language learning to better understand the world
International mindedness is a central theme of the IB and is developed through language acquisition and cultural learning.
Our Prep to Year 4 students learn Chinese through listening, speaking, reading, writing, and presenting. From Year 5, students have the option of Chinese or French.
Specialist programs for movement, fun and creativity
Our expert teaching staff understand what each child can do, and what they need to learn next, enabling them to map a strong pathway of learning through the early years. The Prep program is complemented by specialist offerings, led by experienced specialist teachers, in the fields of Visual Arts, Dance and Drama, Music, Chinese, Library and Physical Education.
Each week, students become a musician, dancer or linguist and develop new skills. Your child will have many enjoyable opportunities to discover their passions and try new things as they progress through the Junior School.
A caring and nurturing environment
The wellbeing of our community is our highest priority. Wesley’s new learning and Wellbeing approach complements the IB philosophy and recognises that wellbeing and learning are inextricably linked and mutually reinforcing. Our program is sequential, ensuring age-appropriate support and skills development.
Working with leading wellbeing organisations, including Grow Your Mind, U R Strong and Social Thinking students participate in evidence-based social and emotional wellbeing programs.
A space where our young learners thrive
At our Elsternwick Campus, the classrooms and teaching and learning spaces are designed specifically to meet the developmental needs of our young learners in Prep.
Play is an essential part of learning and our newly refurbished playground encourages experimental, sensory and imaginative play and cognitive development.
Ensuring a smooth transition to Middle School
Wesley College uses a carefully considered structural and curriculum model to support students through transitions as they progress in their learning and development. Students learn in the Junior School from ECLC to Year 4, the Middle School from Years 5 to 9 and the Senior School from Years 10 to 12.
With access to whole-of-campus sporting and learning facilities, a dedicated Year 4 leadership program and the consistency of learning through the IB framework, your child will transition to Middle School (Years 5 to 9) with excitement and confidence.
